Module 3 Lesson 1 Gel Overlay (Builder Gel Overlay)

This gel base + soft builder gel application is the application method recommended for a Structured Japanese Gel Overlay Service.

In this lesson you will learn how to apply a structured overlay that is thinly self-leveled. I call this a “Build 1” overlay.

We are using the the potted builder gel’s viscosity to give us the strength and thickness we need without having to “sculpt” the builder gel on to the nail. It’s viscosity will give us the support needed.

This Build 1 overlay is for: short to medium-length natural nails that need the support, and/or damaged nails. Particularly those that have experienced product pulled off from them, or also when someone is going from hard products like acrylic, to now soak-off gel.

To achieve consistent monthly wear, some students make this type of overlay (base & builder) their standard service.

Builder gel in a pot is very strong because of its viscosity. It will naturally take longer to self-level. For this reason, after applying on your thumbs, I recommend you work two fingers at a time.
